August 2012

Dear Parishioners:

I will be on vacation when you receive this newsletter. What I thought was going to be a month where we organize and get ready for all our ministries of the parish to be refreshed and begin in September, it is turning out that August have some very exciting opportunities. As I have announced in Church, on Sunday, August 12th at both Eucharists we will have the very special gift of having Bishop Fanuel Magangani , Bishop of the Diocese of Northern Malawi preach. Bishop Fanuel is one of the Lost Boys of the Sudan and has a very rich story to share. The Diocese of Northern Malawi is also our Companion Diocese. Our centurion program, helps us to develop and deepen our relation with Fr. Binga and St. Mark’s parish in the DioceseNorthern Malawi. This is an opportunity that I hope you will not want to miss.

In addition, on Tuesdays from August 14th through September 4th Bishop Fanuel will be teaching a Bible Study on the Parables of Christ. It will begin at 7 pm and end at 8:30 pm. at St Vincent’s Cathedral. I am sure it will be a very excellent series and I hope you will plan to be part of these rare opportunities. Bishop Fanuel will bring his Malawian experience to his teaching. Perhaps you may want to organize a car pool to help those who cannot drive at night. This is an opportunity not to be missed.

Our Christian Education is very important and this is just one way to expand your knowledge. On Sundays: August 12th, August 19th and August 26th we will have a table in the entry to sign up for Christian Education. I pray you will decide, commit and then live out that commitment to our Lord. Our classes for all ages will begin on September 9th at 9:15 am. Besides having our classes for all ages, we will have Inquirers’ Class beginning on Tuesdays at 7 pm in room 10. The first Inquirers will start on September 4th. Our Bishop will be making his visitation to St. Alban’s on October 28th for Confirmation, Reception and Re-affirmation. These classes are to help learn about the Church, the Sacraments, the history and meaning behind these things. Everyone is welcome. Those who have not been confirmed or received into the Anglican Church or those who just wish to review things they have forgotten are invited. So come out and join us: decide, commit, and then follow through on that decision.

Rally Day this year is going to be on Sunday, September 30th. As stated last month, this is because ministry is something that is part of our Stewardship. It is living our commitment out through action, our words, our deeds, and our support. Committing to Christian Education is committing ourselves to the knowledge and love of the Lord and is for our development and growth so that we may better live out our ministry. This is why it is so important for not only adults but our youth. To develop a mature and lasting knowledge and love of our Lord takes a decision, a commitment and a desire to live the life and way Christ has given us.

To further aid in that development, on Sundays, Fr. Scalisi will continue his Disciples in Action class. (DNA). Waller Poage will faithfully continue his class on the Sunday Scriptures, the Lectionary. In addition to the Inquirers’ Class on Tuesday evenings, Deacon Nancy will be offering a class on Personality and Prayer Styles. Time and day are yet to be determined as of the writing of this article. As you can see there are many opportunities for Christian Education. Deciding your growth in the knowledge is important; commit in August to attend; then begin the journey and take advantage of the opportunity for your growth and development. Don’t forget we have a Book Study on Monday’s that will begin in September as well as a Wednesday morning Bible Study for further opportunities.

In August we welcome our choir back from their month vacation. They do such a fantastic ministry! Choir rehearsals resume on Wednesday, August 8th at 7:15 pm. If you are interested in sharing your talent and voice with our choir, please see Thomas Rinn or send him a text. We want this very important ministry to continue to grow and expand. Wouldn’t it be great, now that our Organ is completed, to have to expand the balcony to accompany all those who offer their gift of music? Keep saying your prayers for Sueda. She is making progress after the operation on her hand but still has a way to go. Keep praying that it will continue to be strengthened and heal properly. Sueda hopes to return on the first Sunday in August if all is well. I would like to express our appreciation to Dorinda White for coming back and playing during this time. We appreciate you and your gift of music. Thank You!

Bell Ringers and St. Alban’s Singers (our youth choir) begin rehearsals on Wednesday, August 29th. The St. Alban’s Singers are always welcoming our youth and Vicki Keller does a fantastic ministry with them. Does your youth like to sing? Join us at 6:30 pm on Wednesdays beginning August 29th in the Library. Our Bell Ringers will also begin rehearsing on August 29th at 6:15 pm. in Room 4. All our Bell Ringers are returning this year which means we will be using all our available bells. If you are interested in ringing, please see Sueda as reading music and keeping time is a requirement for this ministry. We will need a substitute list just in case.

As the vacation season starts to come to a close; as we are preparing our children and grandchildren to meet the school days soon ahead; as our teachers prepare to go back to the classroom: take a moment each day to be in the presence of the Lord. Allow his peace which passes understanding to fill your life. Then think about how you can serve him each day. Make a decision, commit to that decision and then live out that decision. You will be blessed beyond understanding.

May God Bless and Keep You!

In Christ,
Fr. K+
