August 2012 Youth Newsletter

It’s been a while, but I thought it would be a good time to renew the e-mail newsletters that were started last year. I am very grateful to those who have provided some feedback. The goal, as always, has been to provide the youth of our parish, and parents, with information that is useful for the work that is set before us…that work being the spread of the Gospel within our homes and within our world. Toward that end, if there is something that you would like to see, or would like more information on, please let me know so that we can accomplish what we have set out to do.

Within this first newsletter, you will find the schedule for the upcoming semester. Take a look and send me some feedback!

As you will see, there have been some changes. As you can imagine, with any change, it will take some getting used to and it will also take some ironing out. First, you will notice that the calendar has been modified so that we have youth group every Sunday. If we want to have a strong, vibrant youth presence within our parish…not to mention building up our youth with a strong foundation on Christ…we need to devote enough time to them in order to make that connection. However, as of this writing, I have not been able to determine if it would be better to have this group immediately after Mass, as we have in the recent past, or if we should have it in the evening. Please let me know what you think!! Just click on this link to send me an e-mail to add your input.

Next, you will notice that, in addition to our regular “youth group meeting”, there is also a bible study so that we can specifically work through the Scriptures. There is no substitute for the Word of God in building up strong Christians, and we want to do everything we can to help in the process! The bible studies are intended to gather in the homes of our youth on a rotating basis. So far, we have at least 3 homes that have opened the doors to this endeavor. With that number, our rotation would be in a specific home every 6 months. If we have more willing participants, we could space it out even more!

Lastly, you will notice that there are events on the schedule to bring us in contact with other youth from around the diocese. There are retreats, diocesan events, and events to bring us together with other diocesan churches in Arlington.

Looking forward to a great year! If you have any questions or comments, please don’t hesitate to contact me!
