The first service of Lessons & Carols was held on Christmas Eve in 1918 at King's College in Cambridge, England. It served to bring disaffected Christians back to church after World War I, and it proved to be immensely successful. Today, this service of anticipation and beauty is one of the Anglican Church's most cherished gifts to the broader Christian world.
